By road way is the most popular and also the best way to get to Halong Bay as the highway in good condition and reasonable cost.
However, it’s only for not so long distance. Tourists can hire a private car with driver from Hanoi or Hai Phong to Halong bay. Another way is taking a shuttle bus which is much less expensive than hiring a private car. From Hanoi, it takes about 4 hours for one way.
In the near future, the project of Hanoi – Halong Highway and Yen Vien – Halong Railway will be completedand reduce the time of transferring from Hanoi to Halong to one hour and a half.
Tip: If you hire a private car; to save money, you should order a return drive.

To get to Halong Bay by water way, tourists can travel by ferry or by vessel. From Binh Ferry, embark a ferry transfer in around 2-3 hours to Halong Bay. Otherwise, you can take the daily high-speed hydrofoil between Bai Chay and Mong Cai. Besides, there are hydrofoils running between Halong - Hai Phong.
Tip: If you worry about seasick, you should travel by ferry although it will take you more time.

From Gia Lam Heliport, tourists can have a transfer by helicopter to Halong. It can be accompanied with a helicopter tour to visit Halong Bay.

This is a great way to explore the World Natural Wonder from on high and save your time (a helicopter tour just takes about 45 minutes).

Tip: The cost of helicopter transfer is quite expensive, so you should consider your budget before using this service.
